Carolyn Milner started smoking when she was in her middle teens. Cool kids smoked! Peer pressure was just as strong then as it is today, and Milner wanted to fit in.
Back then there was no mention of the dangers of smoking and the belief was that lungs repair themselves in a short time when one throws the cigarettes away and gives up the addiction.
Today's teenagers are taught differently and know the damage smoking can do to their bodies.
Milner's lungs are an example of that even though she gave up the habit 40 years ago after smoking for 15 years.
