The quilt was made by Diane Osborne, Emily Osborne, Mallory Hunter, and Denise Schaaf. D. Osborne and Linda Olson presented Doolittle with his quilt on Friday, May 2.
Doolittle joined the army in 1958. He completed basic training at Fort Carson in Colorado and was then assigned to Fort Still in Oklahoma.
Doolittle was discharged from active duty in 1960 but remained in the reserves for four years. He completed his service at Rank E-4, Specialist 4th Class. Doolittle was trained as a sharpshooter, and he assisted in training the South Vietnam army to use US artillery.
Doolittle was accompanied by his wife, his four daughters, and their families as he received his quilt. Those present honored him and helped him celebrate his years of service.
