The West Holt volleyball squad remained perfect on Thursday, August 31 with two wins at the Burwell Triangular.

After earning their way to 2-0 on the season just a week prior, the Huskies came to show that their first matchups of the season were no flukes.

The Huskies began their night off with a matchup against North Central. The Knights of NC entered the contest with just one win on the season, and the Huskies used their struggles to their advantage.

The contests were short-lived, with each match being best-of-three rather than the standard best of five. With that, the Huskies made quick work of their opponents. Pounding the Knights by a score of 25-14 in set one and 25-20 in set two for a clean sweep.

Makinley Cadwallader made her presence known in the Huskies’ match against North Central with a team-leading 13 kills and a hitting percentage of .417. Leading the pack in assists was Lainey Smith with 12, and leading the team in digs was Ainsley Galyen with 10.

The Huskies had little time to celebrate, however, as they were forced to turn around and play Burwell immediately following the conclusion of game number one.

While the Longhorns were able to put up a good fight, West Holt would remain perfect on the season, quickly concluding the game with yet another sweep. This time by set scores of 25-20 and 25-22. The Huskies relied heavily on their grit and competitiveness to drive them to another day of consecutive victories.

The Huskies compete again on Tuesday, September 5 at home against O’Neill and Valentine. After that the Huskies will get a short break before heading to Creighton to partake in a four-team tournament featuring Creighton, West Holt, Summerland and Hartington-Newcastle on Saturday, September 9.
