The West Holt Junior High and High School Cross Country teams took a trip to Ainsworth on Thursday, August 31 to compete in their second meet of the year.
In the Junior High division, West holt was able to find success and begin the day with some positive notes in both the boys and girls divisons. For the boys, it was Ian Cambras and Alek Vrooman racing, finding themselves towards the bottom half of the pack, but putting up a strong fight with solid times.
In the girls Junior High division, West Holt continued their reign of domination. Leading the way for the Huskies was Leah Pistulka who earned second place, as well as Sadie Keogh and Eisley Mlady who earned fifth and sixth place, respectively. Those three finishes were enough to earn West Holt the title of Junior High girls’ team meet champions.
In the High School boys’ division, West Holt was able to put up a good fight. Drew Martin was able to put together a solid showcase coming off his individual victory in the meet prior, and earned the second-place medal in a field of 46 runners. Shortly behind him were Carter Gotschall in 10th and Alex Gotschall in 17th. These three would be the placings used in West Holts team score, which earned them 4th place.
The Husky High School girls’ team arguably had the biggest challenge of the day, facing off against one of the state’s most historically dominant girls Cross Country teams, Ainsworth. The Huskies put up a good fight, earning the third, seventh and eighth place medals thanks to solid performances by Maddie Davis, Felycia Kerkman and Ava Hoffman. But despite the Huskies valiant efforts, the team would fall just short of the championship plaque, taking home the title of meet runner-up.
The Huskies are now preparing for the Boyd County invite on Thursday, September 7 in Butte.
