Five Positive COVD-19 Cases, One Recovery, and First COVID-19 Related Death North Central District Health Department (NCDHD) was made aware of five additional cases and one recovery to report. Four of the cases are in Knox County, two of these cases are result from direct contact with positive cases and two cases are result from community spread. All close contacts have been identified and contacted. Community spread means that the source from the spread of the illness is unknown. Community spread is present throughout the district and residents are encouraged to continue to practice social distancing, wear a mask when social distancing may be difficult, and practice good hand hygiene. NCDHD was also made aware of one additional recovery for Knox County. Additionally, North Central District Health Department is saddened to inform the district the fifth case in reporting today is also the first COVID-19 related death in the district. Through case investigation it was determined the case was an Antelope County male in his 70s and was reported to have underlying health conditions. Case count update as of June 24, 2020 at 3:00 p.m.: 45 Total Cases (TC), 30 Recoveries (R), and 1 Death (D). Reminder that Total Case (TC) numbers are represented first, and of those total cases the number of Recovered (R) persons is represented second, and total case related Deaths (D) is represented third. Application Process Temporarily Paused for Livestock Producer Small Business Stabilization Grants, Application Deadline Extended to July 1 The Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED) has announced a brief pause on the application process for Small Business Stabilization Grants for Livestock Producers. Applications will not be accepted during this pause, which will provide DED necessary time to validate all applicants in a timely manner and avoid potential delays to serving grantees. Applications will be accepted once again starting Monday, June 22, at 8:00 a.m. CST. To account for the scheduled delay, the application deadline has been extended from June 26 to July 1, 2020, at 5:00 p.m. CST. Visit https://getnebraskagrowing.nebraska.gov/ in advance of Monday’s application re-opening for instructions on how to apply for a Small Business Stabilization Livestock Producer Grant. Weather permitting, roadway paint striping will begin on Monday, June 15 in Cherry and Brown counties, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation. Vogel Traffic Services, Inc., of Orange City, Iowa has the $722,654 contract for districtwide striping. Anticipated completion is July 2020. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near construction zones and to buckle up.

From the Nebraska State Activities Association: The NSAA Membership voted 31 to 20 FOR adding Bowling as a sanctioned NSAA activity. The NSAA Membership voted 28 to 23 AGAINST adding Girls Wrestling as a sanctioned NSAA activity. The NSAA Board of Directors voted 7 to 1 to add Girls Wrestling as an EMERGING sport. Governor Offers COVID-19 Update on NET’s May 14 Town Hall Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts will update Nebraskans about the spread of COVID-19 and its potential effect on high school sports during the upcoming fall season during a one-hour NET News town hall meeting airing at 8:30 p.m. CT, Thursday, May 14, on NET, Nebraska’s PBS & NPR Stations.
