The Plainview Board of Education gave an affirmative vote to the continued, expanded, co-op of activities and athletics between Plainview Schools and Osmond Community Schools as part of their efforts on Monday, Oct. 13.

The Board had previously approved junior high co-op of athletics, and after what was considered by many a successful “trial run” decided to include high school girls’ wrestling, high school boys and girls bowling, and unified bowling for this season of competition, and after a community meeting, decided to add high school football and boys and girls high school basketball in 2026-27.

The Osmond and Plainview boards had a joint meeting a few weeks ago, to answer questions from the community and express their plans for the co-op of athletics, with Osmond indicating that the Board appreciated Plainview’s willingness to grow and change as part of the reason for the new partnership.

There are no plans to co-op, merge, or “consolidate” any academic parts of the school at this point, nor have there been plans to do so – with the “co-op” only pertaining to athletics and activities in the near and upcoming future.

For Plainview, it will mean a return to Class C with the added youth from Osmond, likely meaning a return to 11-man football next year.

The teams will be called the Plainview-Osmond Pirates, and Superintendent Dr. Darron Arlt indicated that “most” practices and games will be held in Plainview, unless size constraints or space necessitate doing so in Osmond.
