Plainview High School alumni gathered for their 35th Annual Banquet, Saturday, June 3rd. Approximately 185 alumni and guests enjoyed gathering at the Tartan gym for a 12 noon banquet. The 50 year class from 1973 were the honored guests. Jeff Hoffman welcomed the guests and introduced the 1973 class in attendance; Lauren Rasmussen Walton gave the invocation; both are from the class of 1973.
Brook Curtiss served as emcee of the banquet. Dinner music was performed by Don Coenen from the Class of 1968. Brook Curtiss announced the 5 year classes in attendance: the 70 year class from 1953; the 65 year class from 1958; the 60 year class from 1963; the 55 year class from 1968; the 45 year class from 1978. Especially honored was Lois Blunck Stueckrath from the class of 1949 as the oldest alumni present.
Lauren Jenlinek and Allison Hardisty were present as the 2023 Scholarship award winners and gave thanks to the alumni for their awards and what their plans will be for this coming fall. Joan Alexander, grandmother of Leighton Medina read his thank you to the alumni for his scholarship. Each will be given a $500 scholarship beginning their second semester of schooling. "Pass the Hat" collection was taken to supplement this account.
Corrine Jenkins Janovec, from the All Class committee, had the honor to announce a $50,000 donation to the All Class Scholarship Fund by Marilyn Cox Anderson from the Class of 1953. Since Marilyn would not be able to attend the banquet this year due to a prior engagement, Corrine gave her a personnel call and thanked her for her most generous gift. Marilyn would like the scholarship to be given in honor of the Class of 1953.
Ken Smith and Carol Peterson Casteel gave a few words of appreciation for Marilyn giving this scholarship in their class' honor.
Dr. Darron Arlt, from the class of 1985 and Superintendent of the Plainview Schools announced the Hall of Fame inductees and gave a history about each one. Those inducted this year included: Jim Brunke, from the Class of 1961; Roger Wachholtz from the Class of 1974; Lori Stueckrath Gerlits from the Class of 1985; Kyle Lingenfelter from the Class of 2000; James Poynter from the Class of 2001 and the 1979 One Act Team with Connie Mills as their director.
The All Class committee members are Anne Lerum Weber, 1959; Judy Bonge Wilson, 1966; Corrine Jenkins Janovec and Diann Couchman Frahm both from 1968; Joan Holmes Alexander, 1975 and Brook Curtiss, 1999. Any alumni wishing to help on the committee is welcome!
The program was closed by all singing the School Song. The banquet next year will be held on June 1, 2024.
