The Plainview Pirate and Lady Pirate track teams scored nearly identical team scores to take a double-championship, winning the boys and girls titles at the District Track meet held in Plainview last Wednesday, May 10.
The Plainview teams qualified 12 competitors in 15 events for the D-4 State Tournament at Burke High School in Omaha this weekend:
Abbie Kromarek – 100H; 300H; Triple Jump; Long Jump
Teya Boyer – 200H, 300H, 200m dash
Madelynn Dougherty – Triple Jump

The Pirate boys’ team scored 123 team points, leading the field by the next nearest score, held by Stuart, with 85. Elgin Pope John had 80 and was third in points; Creighton was fourth with 76 and Boyd County rounded out the top five with 63.
Other teams were Chambers-Wheeler Central, Cody-Kilgore, Niobrara-Verdigre, St. Mary’s, Santee and Neligh-Oakdale.
The Lady Pirate girls’ team had 123.5 team points and beat the competition out by 21.5 points. St. Mary’s from O’Neill was second with 102, Niobrara-Verdigre was third with 65, Boyd County had 60 and was fourth, and Cody-Kilgore had 46 points. Elgin/Pope John was sixth with 37, CWC was seventh with 29, Creighton, Stuart and Neligh-Oakdale rounded out the roster.
