From the Knox County Clerk

Pursuant to Nebraska Revised Statute 32-912, registered voters who are not affiliated with a political party (Nonpartisan) and who desire to vote in the Primary Election to be held on May 12, 2026 for the offices of United States Senator and United States House of Representative may request a partisan primary ballot for any one of the State recognized political parties.

In addition, the Nebraska Democratic Party and the Nebraska Libertarian Party, opened their ballots to Nonpartisan voters which allows Nonpartisan voters to request a Nonpartisan Partisan ballot from one of these parties with ALL of that party’s federal and state races, HOWEVER, there are no County races on these ballots in this Primary Election.

The Nebraska Republican party and the Nebraska Legal Marijuana NOW Party did not open their ballots to the Nonpartisan voters so the only races that appear on these ballots will be the Congress and Senate races – no State or County Partisan races.

THE COUNTY RACES OF COUNTY SHERIFF AND COUNTY SUPERVISORS’ DISTRICTS 1, 3, AND 7 WILL ONLY APPEAR ON THE REPUBLICAN BALLOT AS IT IS A RUNOFF OF THESE CANDIDATES. IF YOU WISH TO VOTE FOR THESE RACES YOU WILL NEED TO UPDATE THEIR VOTER REGISTRATION. ALL OTHER COUNTY RACES AUTO-ADVANCED TO THE GENERAL ELECTION.

While the Knox County Agricultural Society Special Election is a County-wide special election, the races of Creighton Township Levy Special Election, Dolphin Township Levy Special Election, Hill Township Levy Special Election, Morton Township Levy Special Election, Valley Township Special Election, Verdigre Township Levy Special Election, Creighton City Councilmembers At Large, Lower Niobrara NRD At Large and Plainview School Bond Election will appear on the Primary Election ballot in the respective precinct for each race.

A letter for a Nonpartisan Partisan ballot was mailed to all active registered Nonpartisan voters that explained the Nonpartisan Partisan process as well as an application to request a Nonpartisan Republican, Nonpartisan Democratic, Nonpartisan Libertarian or Nonpartisan Legal Marijuana NOW ballot. The official Nonpartisan ballot and the Nonpartisan Partisan ballot will need to be mailed back together in the return identification envelope that will accompany the official ballot packet that will be mailed on April 20, 2026.

Voters should update their voter registration if they have moved, changed their name or would like to register with a different political party. Ballots will be mailed to active registered voters in Knox County on April 20, 2026 so it is recommended that voters update their voter registrations BEFORE that date. You can register to vote or update your voter registration online by going to ne.gov/go/NEReg2Vote, obtaining a Voter Registration Form at your local City/Village Clerk’s Office that can be mailed to the Knox County Clerk’s Office or placed in the drop box in the East Foyer of the Knox County Courthouse, OR by coming to the Knox County Clerk’s Office.

All voted ballots must be in the possession of the Knox County Clerk’s Office by 8:00 p.m. on May 12, 2026.
