The Crofton Warriors boys’ basketball team saw their record drop to 6-3 after a loss to Wynot in the first round of the 2025 Crofton Holiday Tournament on Monday, Dec. 29.
After a long holiday moratorium, the Crofton boys stepped back onto the hardwood to take on the Wynot Blue Devils with a trip to the Crofton Holiday Tournament championship game on the line.
To open up the contest, both teams looked as though they hadn’t taken a day off. With both teams red-hot from the field, a total of 43 points were scored in the contest’s opening quarter.
After a fast-paced and high-scoring quarter, the contest stood at 23-20 in favor of the Blue Devils. However, in the second quarter, both teams slowed down significantly.
While shots still fell for both teams, neither squad was able to recreate their first-quarter success. Nonetheless, the Blue Devils were able to slightly expand upon their lead as they went into halftime up 35-28.
Down by seven, the Warriors recollected at the half and came out in the third quarter looking to decrease their deficit.
In the third, both teams kept pace with one another as they traded baskets throughout the entirety of the quarter.
Unfortunately for the Warriors, the Blue Devils were once again able to outscore them, which gave the home squad a 46-38 disadvantage going into the fourth.
Down by eight with just eight minutes to play, the Warriors gave everything they had in the final quarter of play.
With the game on the line, the home squad was once again able to find its rhythm. Behind good ball movement and a strong shot selection, Crofton exploded for their second-highest scoring quarter of the game.
However, as the Warriors got hot, so did the Blue Devils. So, while the Warriors were able to outscore their opponents in the fourth, it wasn’t enough, and Wynot held on for the 61-57 victory.
Leading the way for the Warriors in their third loss of the season were Trevor Allen with 19 points, Preston Foxhoven with 14, Tyson Jackson with nine, and Jackson Lynde with seven.
