From the Knox County Sheriff
At approximately 5:01 a.m. on December 26, 2025 the Knox County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the owner of the Bohemian One Stop just North of Verdigre.
The owner advised that two people had broken out a mostly glass door and entered the business. The owner confronted them with a handgun, and they ran out the door, got into a dark-colored car and left. They threatened the owner at no time or showed a weapon themselves.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office and the Verdigre Police Department responded to the call and are investigating the incident.
A similar incident also happened approximately two miles east of Lindy, NE during the night of December 24, 2025. In that incident the owners were awakened by someone kicking their door and the suspects also left upon hearing the owner in the house. As in the Verdigre incident there was no indication of weapons being involved.
On December 26th while investigating these incidents the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, working along with the Santee Sioux Nation Tribal Police Department, were able to arrest three individuals.
Rolando Jaimes and Clifford Jost, who both reside at 202 Walking Buffalo Drive, Santee, NE, were arrested and charged with burglary and over $75,000 in stolen property was recovered.
A third person was arrested on federal charges. His name and address will need to be from the Santee Sioux Nation Tribal Police Department.
The two charged with burglaries were booked into the Knox County Jail.
The third was booked into BIA Corrections in Wagner, SD.
Reports will be forwarded to the acting Knox County Attorney, the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office, and the United States Attorney’s Office for determination if Jaimes and Jost will be charged in Federal or State Court.
The investigations are continuing and more arrests are expected.
