Nine of the Crofton FFA members went to Bloomfield to compete in the District Poultry Judging Contest on Wed., Oct 22. This was the first time Bloomfield has hosted a competition like this, and it was quite the success.

Crofton placed third overall as a team with freshman Breckin Jansen placing first for Crofton. Senior Sophia Wortmann placed second and sophomore Brynn Hansen was close behind, placing third.

The judging contest had 11 classes where you could judge market broilers, egg type hens, carcass grading, carcass placing, interior grading, exterior grading, written factors, boneless further processed products, bone-in further processed products, parts identification, and a written test. Sophomore Wyatt Guenther stated, “It was a good experience because we got to learn more about the poultry industry and go back next year and do better.”

The next FFA competition will be November 19 for Leadership Development Events, which include Creed Speaking, Ag Demos, Quiz Bowl, and so much more.
