The Crofton Warriors Girls Cross Country team made everyone proud with their outstanding results in Kearney on Friday, Oct. 24 earning the Class D State Runner up title.
Freshman Avery Arens, who not only got the Class D individual state championship, but also set an All-State record with a 17:28:92, which is the best of the whole meet and a new course record. “I feel very grateful for my team mates, friends, and family who were all there for me,” stated Arens.
The rest of the team really stepped up their game and ran well and they ended up finishing ahead of McCool Junction’s top three, but the placing barely edged them out of the team title.
Sophomore Cecilia Wortmann ran incredibly and barely missed out on an individual medal with a 16th place time of 20:18:6.
Senior Sophia Wortmann ran a 20:26.2, taking 1:16 off her time and got 20th place. Sophomore Hudsyn Stout ended up in 34th place with a time of 21:06:9.
Coach Mickey Doerr said, “Hudsyn set a lifetime best to make sure if it had gone to a tie breaker we would have won.” Freshman Claire Marsh got 100th place with a 23:17:8 time, this was her first time running the course and she ended up being among the state’s 100 fastest runners.
The team put together a personal record with a time of 0:05.29.
On the boy’s side, sophomore Kaden Arens also had a great race finishing strong in 36th place with a time of 17:42.0. Coach Doerr stated, “Kaden set a big course best, taking 47 seconds off his time from last year and finishing 15 places higher.”
