August temperatures were fairly close to normal this year but it was considerably wetter than usual.

Twelve days recorded precipitation with the greatest daily total of 2.35 inches on the 3rd. The months total of 5.96 inches was about three inches above normal. Our moisture total for the year now stands at 27.80 inches which is about 7 inches above normal.

A year ago our moisture total at the end of August was 25.07 inches. The moisture total for July and August came to 13.61 inches and for the summer months of June, July, and August we received 18.60 inches.

August temperatures ranged from 90 degrees on the 16th to a low of 46 degrees on the 25th. The months average daily high and low temperatures were 83.0 degrees and 61.3 degrees respectively. The month’s overall average of 71.2 degrees was 1.0 degrees below normal.

Cloud cover included 10 clear, nine partly cloudy, eight mostly cloudy and four overcast days. Thunder could be heard on eight days. The highest wind gust of 44 MPH was clocked at 330 AM on the 6th. The average wind speed was 4.3 MPH with the dominant direction from the south.

Looking ahead to September, the average high and low for the 1st is 81 and 59 degrees. By months end we can expect a high and low of 70 and 45 degrees. We will lose 83 minutes of daylight during the month.
