The Crofton Board of Education has begun process to have a third request sent to taxpayers concerning a bond for renovations, repairs and new construction at Crofton Elementary and Crofton High School.

To help with information about that upcoming election – the Board has scheduled a community meeting on Sunday, June 8 from 6 p.m. to 8p.m. at the Crofton Elementary school.

According to a flyer received from the school – the latest project cost that would be bonded has been estimated at around $5.9 million, a reduction from the 2022 bond request at $18.9 million, and the 2024 request at $12 million.

The proposed special election would be held in September of 2025.

Now at one-third of the original planned cost, the Board of Education has proposed the following for work that needs to be done:

1. New Construction

a. 6 New Classrooms and 2 ADA Accessible Restrooms to meet the needs of the Elementary School

b. New construction is integrated into the existing Elementary Building

2. Safe Space/Storm Shelter

a. Kindergarten classrooms double as a FEMA approved storm shelter

b. 2,200 square feet

c. Benefits anyone in the building! Students, visitors, athletic events, etc!

3. Creates a Cafeteria and Serving Kitchen

a. Removes it from the gym

4. Secure Vestibule and Entrances at the Elementary and High School a. Safety and Security Grant covers the majority of this cost

5. New Roof over entire Elementary School along with other updates to meet code

According to the flyer, the $5.9 million bond would add around 6.9 cents to the levy, per $100 of valuation (based on a 20 year bond).

Tax impact per year was estimated at around $488 additional per irrigated quarter, assuming average assessed values of irrigated land at $4,428.47 (using the 50% market from LB2 valuation figures as required.)

Dryland and grassland would be reduced as their average valuation per acre are typically lower.

A QR code was included on the flyer – directing people to https://croftonwarriorsbond.com where automatic calculators are available for interested taxpayers to estimate their annual and monthly impact by adding their assed valuation.
