Three Crofton journalism students, Jack Schieffer(12), Ashlynn Schieffer(11), and Jaisie Janssen(11), all qualified for the 2025 NSAA State Journalism contest.
Both Schieffers qualified for News Writing and Janssen qualified in Sports News Writing. The state competition was held at Northeast Community College in Norfolk on Monday, Apr. 28.
J. Schieffer was the State Runner-up in News Writing, and A.Schieffer was able to take home 5th. The topic of their article was the Norfolk Farmers’ Market, and they got to experience a mock press conference to gather information for their articles.
A. Schieffer stated, “It was an amazing experience to be a part of, and I learned so much from it. I am so thankful to have received the opportunity to further my news writing skills.” Janssen also took 5th in her category, Sports News Writing.
