The Crofton High School band and choir performed at the District Music Competition on Friday, April 25 at the Laurel-Concord high school.
After working on their pieces all year, both groups had a successful competition.
A one is the highest award that is given at the district competition, and Crofton brought back 21.
The band’s two group performances, the percussion ensemble and the mixed band, were ones. Brooklyn Guenther’s clarinet solo, Corbin Bernt’s timpani solo, Alexa Suing’s saxophone solo, Grant Schieffer’s trombone solo, and Jack Schieffer’s saxophone solo were also given the top score.
Madelyn Loecker, Grant Schieffer, Lelia Barta, Morgan Stevens, Cecilia Wortmann, and Jack Schieffer were awarded with ones for their vocal solos. Three solos sung by Pamela Dennis, Lukas Schantz, and Payden Anderson scored twos.
J. Schieffer received the NSAA Honorable Mention for his solo. The NSAA Honorable mention is awarded to the second best piece performed in the room throughout the day of competition.
“Getting the NSAA Honorable Mention both acts as a milestone, showing me that I can earn things for my hard work, but it also acts as motivation to do better in the future and work harder so I can achieve first place in the next competition I’m in,” J. Schieffer stated.
The two vocal duets sung by Leila Barta and Natalee Steffen and Morgan Stevens and Sophia Wortmann both were rewarded with ones.
The mixed choir and women's ensemble were awarded ones. The men's ensemble received a two.
