The Wakefield City Council unanimously approved opening Graves Park to the Public including the bathrooms, playground equipment, and concession stand.

With football season looming on the horizon, the council decided it was time to open up the park and prepare for the season to come- if it comes.

According to several sources, including the Nebraska School Activities Association, the fall high school season is on precarious ground, but the City of Wakefield opened things in the park to be prepared for whatever transpires in the upcoming weeks.

In addition to opening the park, the council also cleaned up some accounting on the various street projects around town, approving the final pay request on the Michener Street project in the amount of $302,391.73 and the final request for funds on the Johnson Street project.

The council also approved appointing Steve Greve to fill the term of Mark Bejot on the CRA committee effective immediately.

It also approved application for CDBG funds to apply for a grant for the Downtown Revitalization Project.

The application for the grant must be submitted by September 15 and the space included will be four blocks on Main Street.

The council also learned the Balloons ‘N BBQ festivities will not be held this year.
